My Birthday, Free Event, Gifts, & More!

Dear Reader,

I hope you're doing well!

I want to thank you so very much for the outpouring of support and concern when I shared about my accident. Your messages meant so much to me! The surgery on my wrist went smoothly, and I'm recovering well (and doing my exercises and learning how to navigate with minimal use of my dominant hand).

This is my birthday week! It's also roughly the one-year anniversary of the publication of my poetry book, I Say the Sky, and I have two special offerings to share. :)

It has taken me a while to learn to fully enjoy my birthday--to receive whatever people offer and find in them authentic acts of love– and I'm more able to give authentic gifts myself now, too.

Holidays are about so much more than material consumption!

In that spirit, I want to invite you to a free interactive poetry and meditation event. And if you're looking for an authentic gift to give to others, I Say the Sky and the accompanying interactive experiences might be the perfect solution!

Free Poetry Event

I'm excited to offer I Say the Sky: Poetry, Meditation, and Connection, a restorative gathering of poetry, contemplative practices, and community.

I'll read poems from I Say the Sky, lead you through some guided meditations, offer prompts for reflection, and answer your questions in a Q&A. :)

The gathering will take place live on Zoom on Tuesday, December 17th at 3:30pm ET/ 12:30pm PT/ 8:30pm England. If you can't make it live, no worries; sign up anyway, and I'll send you the recording.

RSVP for the FREE online event here or simply click below and you'll be registered. Invite friends and family to join us, too!

I hope you'll give yourself the gift of this pause, this time of slowing down and reconnecting with yourself. I'm envisioning our 90 minutes together as a mini-retreat from the holiday hustle and bustle where we can recenter and ground our bodies, calm our minds, and rejuvenate our spirits. Let's recharge together. :)

A Holiday Gift for Loved Ones (and Yourself)

Looking for a holiday gift for the writers, poetry lovers, meditators, yogis, healers, mothers, artists, activists, and creative spirits in your life? Give (or request) a gift of poetry and creative inspiration with I Say the Sky. I'm honored to share that I Say the Sky recently won two 2024 American Bookfest Book Awards, Best Poetry Book: General and Best Poetry Book: Nature, and has a 5-star rating on Amazon and Goodreads

From my press's description of the book:

Both elegy and celebration, I Say the Sky addresses some of the most challenging aspects of human existence, from childhood trauma to environmental devastation, and discovers, in unexpected and clear-sighted ways, wisdom, wonder, and peace. ... I Say the Sky is a meditative and ultimately inspiring book that will be savored by seasoned readers as well as those new to poetry.

And to make the gift more special, and because I believe that reading poetry is an immersive and creative experience, I've put together two special interactive bonuses that come with the book for free this holiday season:

  • Free entry into (and lifetime access to) the book’s companion 7-Day New Year Meditation and Writing Practice, an inspiring, transformative, and joyful way to jump into meditating and writing for the new year; I use poems from the collection to inspire the writing prompts. This practice is for people of all levels of writing and meditation experience, from complete beginners to professionals! (Gift recipients will receive information about this in January.)
  • Free access to a recording of the reading/workshop, I Say the Sky: Poetry, Meditation, and Connection

How to Order and get the accompanying bonuses:

  1. Order I Say the Sky. Order the book on Amazon here, from the Press here, or from your favorite local bookstore.
  2. Register the Recipient for the Gift Bundle using this Google Form! Enter the order number, the gift recipient's first name, and the gift recipient's email address.
  3. Print this PDF and gift it with the book. :)

I'll email all gift recipients in early January with the event recording as well as everything they need for the 7-Day New Year Meditation & Writing Practice, which will begin January 6th. :) (If you would like the bonus practices before January, there is a place to note that on the form.)

Gift the book to several friends or family members, and enjoy the practices together! I love imagining this book prompting and inspiring moments of connection and community. <3

with love and gratitude for you and for the gift of our connection,
Nadia

Here's what some readers and reviewers have said:

"I Say the Sky is a gift that keeps on giving."
"With a light hand, deft intellect, and a spirit that knows breaking and healing, Nadia Colburn will deepen your sense of self, world, and relationship with I Say the Sky."
"In this luminous collection, Nadia Colburn opens us to the real world and shows us life as it is. These are poems to read slowly, to savor and to come back to again and again. A welcome respite from a noisy world!"
"This collection of poems is a faithful companion to anyone who appreciates slowing down, seeing the magic in everyday life, honoring Mother Earth, and learning from the darkness that we often encounter in our human lives."
"From the opening poem and on through this glorious book, Nadia Colburn strikes the difficult balance between celebrating the splendor of the world we inhabit and acknowledging the grief and devastation that none of us can escape. As much a book of love songs as a book of elegies, I Say the Sky is a heart opening and mind sharpening collection." –Camille T. Dungy
“Through her contemplative and evocative poems, Colburn invites the reader to join her in exploring the wounds and joys of being fully human...The writing is exquisite and sparing; every word matters...Colburn communicates a journey toward  reconciliation and self-acceptance.” –Margaret Anne Kean, EcoTheo Review

Dear Reader, How are you doing? The election news is big, and I’ve been taking time to process it. There are many people talking about and analyzing the election results, but I found myself feeling very quiet yesterday. I needed to go inward. I needed to slow down, to be with myself, and listen to my body. I encourage you to do the same. Take your time with your processing. Feel everything that you're feeling. Be gentle with yourself. Remember to breathe. Reach out to friends; hug people;...

Dear Reader, I spent last week canvassing in Philadelphia. For me, going out and canvassing is an act of love, an act of working for our world, for our country, and for all people in the ways I know best to do at this particular moment. Yesterday, when I got home, I spent some time trying to put my experiences into words and found myself unable to do it very well. Then my daughter, Simone, sent me an article she wrote about her experience canvassing in Michigan this month. I found it captured...

Dear Reader, As someone who thinks and writes a lot about the power of our voice, I want to share some resources that can help us use our voices this election season. This is a very important, nail-biting election here in the US. I want to offer resources that will both empower us and keep us centered and at peace within ourselves. I am also going to be hosting a 60-90 minute live Get Out the Vote Letter Writing Zoom Session this coming Friday, October 18th at 12:00 pm ET / 9:00 am PT. This...
